Hotel Balkan

Comfortable, welcoming and friendly

Pros: The location was superb…very central, convenient for public transport (which is entirely free!). The building is beautifully decorated to a very high standard and extremely clean. Breakfast was included in the room rate: it was very varied, beautifully presented and the breakfast staff was so vigilant and helpful. The room we had was large enough for our needs with a large double bed, a sofa, a desk, mini bar, kettle and a beautiful shower/toilet. Although we were overlooking a busy traffic street there was little noticeable noise. The meals in the restaurant were well-priced and delicious (see below for what we didn’t like about the restaurant) the waiting staff were very helpful, understood and spoke English.

Cons: The only complaint I have is to do with cigarette smoking. In most of Western Europe and the U.S. smoking in restaurants, bars and hotels is strictly forbidden and we have become very used to not having to put up with the odour of tobacco smoke. Unfortunately, it seems that in the Balkan countries this is not the case. The hotel clearly forbad smoking throughout the hotel except for in the restaurant…..the restaurant was divided into a smoking and no smoking area, quite widely separated in distance but without a physical separation, meaning that we could clearly smell cigarette smoke. For those of us who are no longer used to this nuisance, this could be off-putting.

The Balkan Hotel is a true gem in the Old Town of Belgrade.

Pros: The location was perfect, near to lots of attractions. The Hotel was newly renovated and everywhere was spotlessly clean and shiny. The room was spacious and a fully tiled on suit with a great shower and plenty of hot water. Just what you need after a day of walking around the city. There is also a small fridge in the room which is a minibar and some nibbles if you fancy. The prices are shown and would be added to your bill. There is also a safe in a cupboard. Breakfast was a feast! Everything was available to eat from pastries to bacon and eggs. Cold meats and cheese, fruit and cereals. Plenty of it with the very tentative staff who were clearing and cleaning serving cutlery after each use. The evening meals , which by the way, have 10% off the price if you stay at the hotel , were excellent too. We would book this hotel again if ever we returned to Belgrade. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Cons: The only small complaint we had was that it was very warm in the bedroom. We opened the window and this helped a lot and this would stop the air condition from working. Cooled the room nicely.

Very good hotel

Pros: The location was great. The bed was very comfortable and the interior decoration was very nice.

Cons: The breakfast, even though it was very extensive with a lot of variety, it was not so fresh. They were using the same stuff (i.e. cheese, bacon, sausages) for consecutive days until they were finished, even the salads that had to be more fresh. Also, the sheets on the bed were too narrow and couldn't cover the whole mattress and it was coming off from one side. The cover was narrow also. The shower was a bit uncomfortable as well because there was nowhere to hang the shower telephone and you had to hold it with one hand and wash only with the other. There was a shower head but if you didn't want to wet your hair you wouldn't want to use it. My room had only a window that was looking in a closed space, not outside to a view.

Modern, renovated amenities in a heritage hotel in central Belgrade

Pros: Newly-renovated, clean, modern rooms in a heritage building centrally located in Belgrade; easy to get around to major sites. Good breakfast buffet and friendly service from all staff!

Pros: I loved the huge size of the bed, super comfy, I was traveling with my friend and didn’t even realize we were sharing a bed.

Cons: There was nothing not to like. It honestly was very nice!

magnificient hotel in the heart of Belgrade

Pros: Extraordinary hotel in the heart of Belgrade (Terazije). Spacious and comfortable rooms, delicious kitchen with a terrific menu and the friendliest staff I have met. Highly recommending Hotel Balkan to anyone looking for an exceptional stay in Belgrade.

Excellent Location!!

Pros: We stayed for six nights, and everything was excellent. Location, cafe bar and restaurant all were up to our expectations. Breakfast was well presented, and had a good variety, even for us we stayed for a week. Maybe one more choice of jam, but just as a recommendation, not a complaint.

Cons: Nothing really. Everything was very good.
